Fibreglass
In the case of planters, Fibreglass is used as a more general term for ‘Glass-Reinforced Plastic (GRP),’ a composite material of plastic and glass fibres.
GRP was first developed in the UK during the Second World War for use in aircraft but given its lightweight, yet resilient, characteristics, now has a vast range of uses.
Maintenance
Fibreglass is largely impervious to the effects of weather, meaning that these planters can be used inside and out. Colour may dull slightly over the years. Planters should simply be washed down with a damp cloth.
Planting
These fibreglass planters do not feature a drainage hole. If they are to be used outside, a layer of shingle should be placed in the base of the pot. Alternatively, drainage holes can be cut with any household drill. A layer of stones/shingle, such as the Rainbow Stones we stock, across the top soil can look effective.
