Oak

Oak is regarded as a particularly attractive hardwood given its light tone and stand out grain markings. It is also renowned for its resistance to fungal and insect attack, strength and density – as borne out by the weight of this plinth.

Production

A single block is cut from one of our air dried oak beams. The waist is achieved by cutting initially with a hand held circular saw and then a band saw. The entire plinth is then sanded down for a smooth finish.

Maintenance

These plinths will develop further character as the air dried oak they are crafted from continues to dry. Any splitting and cracking will only enhance appearance – there will be no structural impact.

Over time, the plinths will also silver down given exposure to sunlight. As with the drying out process, the extent of this will largely depend on where the plinth is positioned.

Finishing

This listing is for an unfinished Solid Oak Plinth. For an additional charge of £20, however, we can apply a coat of Danish or Hard Wax Oil before shipping. Whilst this will not prevent the drying out and silvering processes, they will be delayed, particularly if the wax/oil is reapplied on a regular basis.
